Although the ‘’The Grand Lady of Ionian Sea’’ (Corfu) isn’t dressed in white – as many mountainous regions in Greece are – Christmas time here has its own magic…
Enter the holiday mood and be carried away by the fairytale atmosphere. Immerse yourself in the jollities with the same enthusiasm as the people of Corfu. Every year the island unfolds its festivities in Venetian finesse; the colorful lights are twinkling day and night in the narrow alleyways of the old town (‘’kantounia’’), at Pentofanaro and the west side of the Esplanade, the most famous pedestrian area of Corfu, Liston.
Grab a hot chocolate and join in the festivities taking place on every corner of the island. As you may have already heard, Corfu’s history has been connected to music since the ancient times. The island has a rich musical tradition and is the birthplace for many of Greece’s most talented musicians. Therefore, it would be a crime to miss the musical performance ‘’Gala…Christmas’’ which will take place on the 26th of December at the Municipal Theatre of Corfu. Another great happening will be ‘’Christmas Village’’, which will be held until Saturday, January 7th. The main event will take place at the central square of Corfu with parallel actions at Anountsiata, Michael Theotoki Square, the Municipal Theatre and the Public Library as well.
Another event that can’t be missed is ‘’Christmas Potamoupoli’’ (The River City), which takes place at Potamos, on the outskirts of Corfu town; it’s a great place to unwind and have fun with your little ones. Savor traditional Christmas treats, meet Santa Claus and his elves, the Snow Queen at her castle, the Evil Queen at the frosty forest and take part in cultural performances and craft workshops. In this patchwork of Christmas sensations, holiday experiences are rendered even more colorful by the deep blue of the Ionian Sea, the greenery and the mountainous landscape, the coral of our sunset, and the rich violet of our night sky. If you wish to have a memorable festive escape, without a doubt, Corfu is your destination.
This year though, we won’t be together to share these joyful moments, due to our hotel’s renovation; however, our wonderful island awaits to reveal its immense beauty to you. We can’t wait to welcome you again at Ariti in a few short months.
P.S: Don’t forget to share your delightful moments with us on social media. We will be glad to see how you spend your holidays on our island.
Happy Holidays to all of you!
